** Working base may relocate within Western HSC Trust (Northern Sector – Derry/Londonderry / Limavady / Strabane) as a requirement of the post to meet the changing needs of service and to facilitate any driver rotas.

Job Summary

The post holder will carry out daily vehicle driving duties as required to meet needs of the Trust Transport service, and will prioritise the changing needs of the service users and the service at each Day Centre.

As a key part of service delivery, the post holder will be required to be flexible at all times in role and will support Day Centre management/staff to deliver an effective and changing service for service users each day (e.g. daily social outings etc.).

Post holder will have a current knowledge of scheduled runs and Trust transport procedures (including safe operating procedures); and will be part of any driver rotation for ‘scheduled runs’ as required.

The post holder will be required to provide feedback to Operational Managers - including proposals/opportunities for service improvement, e.g. changes to safe operating procedures and route planning.

The post holder will be required to use own initiative to address daily issues/queries promptly directly on site with service users and others to promote a high quality service at all times.

Note:

1. Start/finish times (and break times) on all ‘scheduled runs’ may vary

2. Breaks times on each shift are not rigid (i.e. no set or specific times) and will be subject to change by Centre Manager on duty to meet the daily changing needs of the service

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Undertake vehicle checks (start of each shift or change in vehicle) to ensure vehicle is roadworthy - including checking bulbs, fuel, oil and coolant level - and change/top up as required. Identify and undertake remedial action/minor repairs, e.g. vehicle not starting.
  • Record daily vehicle check and report any vehicle or equipment defects promptly to Operations Manager.
  • Complete vehicle Log Book fully (accurately and legibly) for each individual journey on each shift - and any other records in relation to the performance and usage of the vehicle.
  • Be flexible at all times to collect and convey service users daily to Day Care facilities as required. Take breaks around daily service need and support Day Centre management/staff to meet the changing needs of the service users and the service each day; e.g. daily and/or additional social outings.
  • Ensure all service users travelling in Trust vehicles are securely seated at all times.
  • Ensure service users travelling in wheelchairs are secured with the appropriate wheelchair and occupant restraint systems.
  • Ensure safety of service users as a priority, and operate vehicle and tail lifts in a safe manner in accordance with health and safety requirements.
  • Collect, convey and deliver goods, meals containers, equipment and other articles as and when required to meet the needs of the service. This will include handling such items on premises.
  • Provide cover for other drivers as required to meet the needs of service users.
  • Be responsible daily for data entry for each journey by ensuring proper use of digital tachographs (on vehicles where required) and vehicle tracking units. Monitor own driver performance on vehicle tracking mobile app daily – including taking action promptly to address ‘flags’, e.g. speeding or harsh breaking event.
