The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), 20 minutes west of the CBD, is a 307 bed acute care teaching hospital, with the ED seeing approximately 125 patients a day, along with a varied case-mix including paediatrics and gynaecology. A new upgrade is in progress to include a new ED, in addition new operating theatres, day surgery suite, outpatient clinics, medical imaging services and intensive care unit.

Medical officers are well supported by consultant medical staff at both sites, with a consultant presence for at least 16 hours/day, with consultants on call and easily and willingly available during the night.
