POSITIONS ARE IN REMOTE AND/OR ISOLATED COMMUNITIES**
Public Health Nurses develop and deliver comprehensive health programs that include promoting, protecting and preserving the health of First Nations peoples on reserve. Health care programs are designed in partnership with community members and leaders to promote environments that support good health.
Intent of the process
We are recruiting experienced nurses to fill various positions available in remote and/or isolated First Nations communities in Manitoba, and Alberta.
A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar or identical positions at Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) with various linguistic profiles and/or requirements as well as tenures (acting, assignment/secondment, deployment, term and/or indeterminate) and/or security clearance (reliability or secret), which may vary according to the position being staffed.

Essential Experience
Recent* and significant** experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) in one or more of the following Public Health areas:
1. Health Promotion / Disease Prevention
2. Communicable Disease Control
3. Population Health Assessment
4. Emergency Preparedness, Surveillance and Response
Recent* is defined as within the last three years.
Significant** is defined as at least one year of experience with the candidate performing complex activities related to this task.

Conditions of Employment
· Reliability Status Security Clearance
· Valid driver's license or personal mobility to a degree normally associated with the possession of a driver's license
· Medical Clearance:
o PRE-PLACEMENT: Category 1 health evaluation + COVID-19 self-screening questionnaire;
o PERIODIC: Category 3 health evaluation according to the schedule outlined in the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard for “First Nations and Inuit Health Branch Nurses Assigned to Isolated Posts in Northern First Nations Communities”;
o For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: a valid Category 1 medical clearance for their dependent(s) in accordance with section 4.2 of the Isolated Post and Government Housing Directive and Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule;
o For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: consent to their dependent(s) to undertake a Category 1 periodic health evaluation in accordance with Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule.
· Willingness and ability to travel in small aircraft, off road vehicles and by boat in varied weather conditions to communities in remote and isolated areas
· Willingness and ability to work in a rigorous, diverse and often demanding work environment
· May be required to be temporarily reassigned to other communities as operationally required
· Willingness and ability to perform on call duties, work after hours, and on weekends as required
· Willingness and ability to complete mandatory education/training relevant to the position
· Current valid registration as a Registered Nurse and a member in good standing in the province where the position is located.
· Important Note: Candidates must meet and maintain the Conditions of Employment throughout their employment.

Education
· Graduation with a degree in nursing from a recognized post-secondary institution*
*A public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.
· Candidates with foreign credentials must provide proof of Canadian equivalency. Consult the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials or Alliance of Credential Evaluation Services of Canada (ACESC).
Experience
Recent* and significant** experience in one or more of the following areas:
1. Chronic Disease Management (including Mental Health or Addictions)
2. Maternal Child Health and Early Childhood Development
Recent* is defined as within the last three years.
Significant** is defined as at least one year of experience with the candidate performing complex activities related to this task in a wide variety of situations.

Allowances: Public Health positions may be eligible for the following allowances: Education Allowance ($605 - 3,850), Recruitment Allowance ($6,750 upon signing $9,750 after 12 months)*, Retention Allowance ($16,500)*, and Isolated Post Allowance ($4,299 to $23,126 (w/o dependents)).
*(Recruitment allowance for registered nurses (RNs) will be paid in 2 installments ($6750 in the first month of hire and $9,750 after 12 months for a total of $16,500. For part-time employees, the amounts are prorated.)
