Job Summary
To work as part of a team providing telephony services, 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Provide telephonist service for internal and external calls.
Process calls and enquires efficiently and effectively within prescribed standards
Respond to multiple emergency alarms and emergency systems e.g fire,panic, lift acessiable toilet, boiler house alarms and medical gas alarms. Major Hemorrhage protocol.Pharmacy and labs blood fridge and cold rooms faults .Radiotherapy air plant faults and the emergency phone in the external carpark accessiable refuge etc.
Record and retain all logs for future audit purposes
Update and maintain records
Update and share information with work colleagues with particular relation to on-call rotas.
Administer the handover/return of pagers
Report telephone faults
Operate any relevant support service systems
Operate the main reception desk when required
As and when required, post holders may need to work at short notice for shifts which cover a 7 day week / 24 hour period therefore flexibility is required
Responsible for the hospital intercom out of hours. Providing access to the hospital for staff, patients, relatives, ambulance transfers, liaising with the ward for confirmation.
Operate all car park and ambulance barriers out of hours. Report faults and use initiative to decide if barriers should stay open depending on response time from on-call engineer
Immediate response to emergency phone. Record exact details of the emergency or incident to alert the correct team. Relay correct information, clearly and concisely. Contact any other medical personnel required eg. Consultant, Bloodbank.
Responsible for the security and issue of keys left in the Switchboard e.g key for site management master key box, keys for the cafes and canteen out of hours and the keys for the ‘on call’ accomdation out of hours. The issue of the additional swipe cards.
Activate hospital Major Incident procedure when required. Liaise with Police, Fire Dept, medical staff and management via two way radio and telephone to ensure the correct procedure is followed.
Monitor Multitone Status Screen for Altnagelvin, South West Acute Hospital and Tyrone County. Report Faults. Implement procedures in the event of Multitone Bleep System and/ or Switchboard failure.
Occasionally required, out of hours and bank holidays, to coordinate staff, ensuring shifts are covered in the event of an absence.
