Role purpose

The Hand Therapist is responsible for providing clinical hand therapy treatment to patients, ensuring the service is fully compliant with the ACC Hand Therapy Services Operational Guidelines, participating in mentoring with your supervising hand therapist, promoting the service in the wider community and establishing and building relationships with stakeholders in the patient's care.

Duties and responsibilities

   Hand Therapy Clinical

·      Delivery of clinical hand therapy rehabilitation services including fabrication and fitting of thermoplastic orthoses, wound care, and any other physiotherapy or occupational therapy appropriate to the needs of the patient

·      Timely completion of appropriate clinical notes

·      Correspond with relevant stakeholders in the patient's care as required to maintain healthy relationships, and provide highest quality of care to the patient

·      Assist and work collaboratively with Body in Motion’s Hand Therapy Services Manager with clinical tasks.

·      Work with the Hand Therapy Services Manager to provide high quality care to clients of Body in Motion.

Associate Hand Therapist

·      Actively participate in supervision as an associate hand therapist in accordance with Hand Therapy New Zealand's Standards and Guideline for Supervision, including:

          - Participate in The Hand and Upper Limp paper offered by AUT and pass this course.

          - Ensure progress towards becoming a registered hand therapist within 3 years of becoming named providers.
