Women's and Infants' Health

Are you an experienced or new graduate Registered Nurse wanting to specialize within Women’s and Infants’ Health, but don’t yet have extensive experience in this area?

This is a great entry point and learning environment that offers full-time employment and extensive orientation along with continuing education and skill development. You’ll have an opportunity to build your knowledge and gain hands-on-experience across multiple areas of care including Labour and Delivery, Mother Baby and Antenatal units.

Is this you?
You have a thirst for knowledge and a commitment to ongoing education and skill development. A unique aspect of this role is the opportunity to develop specialized Women's and Infant Health skills. This includes caring for laboring patients and performing the duties of a scrub nurse in operating rooms or the labour and delivery suite.

You are seeking a nursing role that provides plenty of opportunities to experience both core and unique scenarios within this area of care. Each year Mount Sinai Hospital proudly supports more than 7,000 births. As the largest academic centre for women’s health in Canada, you’ll be situated within an internationally-recognized team well suited to help you develop as a Registered Nurse.

About this team:
Successful candidates will be hired into and retained in a float pool. You will receive extensive orientation in the Mother Baby program (including Antenatal) and Labour and Delivery unit. After the orientation, you will be assigned to one of these three areas of care. To make sure you have the ability to maintain your knowledge and skill development, you will be designated to the Labour and Delivery Unit (at least one day per week).

To help you feel confident and prepared for this role, you’ll receive comprehensive orientation along with phased transition to practice. This orientation will be comprised of classroom days with competency-based orientation to the units to which RNs would be floating.

In this role you will:

  • Provide direct care to patients in the Antenatal, Mother Baby and Labour and Delivery units. This includes assessment and documentation of vital signs, fetal heart rate, labour assessment, support with infant feeding, and postpartum and newborn assessments
  • Contribute to patient and family education
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required

  • Preference will be given to applicants with 1 year of nursing experience in Women’s and Infants Health, (Labour and Delivery, Antenatal, Post-Partum, and NICU).
