Job summary
The post holder will be the strategic lead for the clinical pharmacy service across the Trust.
He/she will be directly accountable and responsible for leading and providing expert advice on the clinical pharmacy and medicines information (MI) services across the Western Health and Social Care Trust.
He/she will lead and manage the clinical pharmacy service to Altnagelvin Hospital and the northern sector of the Trust.
He/she will manage and facilitate the provision of pharmacy education and training for clinical pharmacy and medicines information services to Altnagelvin Hospital and the northern sector of the Trust.
Main responsibilities
- Strategically lead and develop the clinical pharmacy and medicines information services on a Trust-wide basis. Developments should be in accordance with national guidance, corporate priorities, relevant standards and local patient needs in order to ensure the safe, clinically effective and cost-effective use of medicines.
- Responsible for the identification, development and implementation of a strategic vision for clinical pharmacy service provision.
- Chair a Trust-wide Strategic Clinical Pharmacy Group.
- Lead the modernisation of clinical pharmacy services including adoption of innovative working practices and utilisation of new technologies. This will involve:
-Re-engineering ward-based clinical pharmacy services to implement current best practice in medicines management and medicines optimisation.
-Utilisation of ward-based medicines management technical staff
-Use of patients’ own drugs on wards and for discharge
-One stop dispensing
-Collaborative working with other healthcare professions.
- Lead on the strategic implementation and development of Encompass in clinical pharmacy and MI services.
- Lead on relevant projects to deliver components of the Pharmacy business plan.
- Responsible for delivering, monitoring and evaluating the provision and quality of all components of the clinical pharmacy and medicines information service to the Trust. This is through appropriate staffing structures, delegation, internal reporting arrangements, collaborative working as well as regular data collection and analysis.
- Responsible for ensuring the clinical pharmacy and medicines information services have a high profile within the Trust and service users have confidence in the quality of the service. This is through the maintenance and development of appropriate policies, procedures, staff training & development, service standards and audit.
- Collaboratively create, develop and implement quality indicators, key performance standards and peer review for clinical pharmacy and medicines information services
- Lead and act as a role model for all staff working within Pharmacy
