Job summary
The post holder will be part of the Dysphagia Support Team within the WHSCT. This team will promote the wellbeing of people who have dysphagia at all stages from pre-referral through to assessment, management and discharge. This will include working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to deliver the best possible service across the full range of care settings.
The team has a remit to deliver transformational change for the management of adults with dysphagia in line with the principles and model for health and social care contained in the Bengoa Report and Health and Well-being 2026: Delivering Together.
Key objectives of the Dysphagia Support Team:
- Support delivery of safe and effective dysphagia care for patients/residents, carers and staff in WHSCT
- Promote the wellbeing of adults with Dysphagia
- Deliver transformational change for the management of adults with dysphagia
- Co-produce models of service provision to build on existing services and introduce new models of service provision
- Support the Regional work of Dysphagia NI
Main responsibilities
- Plan, design and implement innovative and evidence based models of intervention and service delivery in collaboration with the Dysphagia Coordinator
- Work collaboratively and liaise with other relevant Health and Social Care staff/non-statutory organisations and act as a resource to the SLT core team
- Liaise closely with patients/carers and provide specialist advice and support regarding client’s eating and drinking difficulties to ensure best outcomes
- Build and maintain relationships and contribute to collaboration on projects relating to specialist caseload
- Take an active role in implementing change programmes in the clinical/workplace setting
- Interpret and compare a complex range of options for treatment of specialist caseload
- Contribute to interpretation of future impact of decisions for specialist clinical area
- Review the effectiveness of alternative treatment options and approaches for a specialist caseload/supervisees caseload
- Plan and advise on caseload management/ triage for specialism, taking account of clinical/service priorities
- Contribute to the development of systems which help self and others manage their time and workload more effectively
- Engage in partnership working with families, carers and other agencies in line with the Trust’s corporate commitment to Personal and Public Involvement (PPI)
- Be responsible for the management of a designated caseload
- Highlight areas of potential inefficiency to senior colleagues within the Department and propose solutions
- Provide regular progress updates and contribute to the monitoring process of the team
- Contribute to response to complaints
- Contribute to HR processes for specialist area e.g. recruitment and selection
- Propose policy changes, impacting within and beyond own area
