Location:  Southern Sector (Strabane, Omagh, Fermanagh)

Contract and Hours: Permanent, Temporary / Full Time, Part-Time

A waiting list is currently being established for any Permanent, Temporary, Full-Time or Part-Time opportunities that may arise throughout the Southern Sector (Strabane, Omagh and Fermanagh) over the next 12 months

 

Job summary

The post-holder will work as part of the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) team to provide a service for children and/or adults with speech, language, communication and/or swallowing difficulties, in accordance with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) standards of practice.

The post-holder will implement SLT programmes devised by a Speech and Language Therapist for groups and individuals

 - to develop communication skills and promote positive communication environments

 - to manage eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties (i.e. dysphagia)

The post-holder will work as part of an SLT team in a range of settings across the Trust. This may include mainstream schools, special schools and units, Health Centres, other community settings, Adult Training Centres, Adult Day Centres, hospitals, nursing homes etc. depending on the needs of the service.

 

Main responsibilities

  • Have specific responsibilities with a designated caseload or within a particular setting under the supervision and guidance of the Speech and Language Therapist including:

- delivering therapy on an individual and group basis with adults on the caseload.

- providing relevant information to the Speech and Language Therapist for use in monitoring and reviewing the child’s/adult’s progress.

- use and maintain augmentative and alternative communication systems.

- carry out formal/informal assessment as agreed with the Speech and Language Therapist.

- modify approaches and activities within programmes to meet the requirements of clients.

- be aware of the role limitations and when to seek advice from the supervising Speech and Language Therapist.

  • Support the Speech and Language Therapy team by organising the clinical environment according to the needs of the client
  • Plan, design and develop activities and materials, in consultation with the SLT team, to meet the needs of clients on the caseload
  • Attend and participate in team and staff meetings as requested
  • Contribute to the training of clients, parents, carers and other professionals as agreed with the Speech and Language Therapist
  • Contribute to the induction of Technical Instructors or new members of staff within the Department
  • Communicate factual information to clients under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapist
  • Support the SLT Team in the storage and disposal of client records
  • Utilise a range of software packages e.g. Excel and PowerPoint
  • Provide data as required by the service
