Job Summary
The Head of Infection Prevention & Control (IP&C) will be a member of the Nursing, Midwifery & AHP Services Directorate Senior Management Team (SMT). The post holder will be responsible to the Director, and have delegated responsibility from the Director, for the development, delivery and provision of high quality, safe and effective IP&C Services across the Trust. The Head of IPC will bring a perspective to teams to deliver services in line with corporate objectives and with key quality and performance indicators and targets.
The Head of IP&C will lead the strategic direction of IP&C services and influence the overall strategic leadership direction within the Trust. The post holder will provide advice to the Director, Department of Health (DoH) and Ministerial Bodies to ensure the Trust fulfils its responsibilities for all Infection Prevention & Control Services.
The Head of IP&C will lead the strategic planning and be responsible for all aspects of the safe and efficient delivery of these services throughout the Trust and be responsible for providing strong management and leadership, ensuring the implementation of a systemic and comprehensive performance management framework to secure the delivery of targets and priorities established by the Minister, Department of Health, Strategic Planning & Performance Group (SPPG), and the Trust. The post holder will facilitate and ensure effective multidisciplinary and inter-agency working to establish effective clinical care pathways and in achieving the most efficient use of resources.
The Head of IP&C will provide clear leadership and oversee the management of all staff involved in the delivery of Services. The post holder will ensure the effective delivery of these services within the Division, contribute to the monitoring and analysis of performance, initiate appropriate corrective action, identify unmet need, and escalate concerns. The Head of IP&C will put in place effective systems to manage the day-to-day operations of the Division including governance and financial management. The post holder will co-ordinate these activities with other Directorates as necessary and in conjunction with agreed Trust policies.
Main result areas
- Lead on the development of a Trust Infection Prevention & Control Strategy and input into any regional strategies.
- Contribute to the Trust’s Business Planning and Strategic Development, ensuring IP&C and continual quality improvement remains integral to the process.
- Advise the Trust on service development, taking account of national guidelines, and of examples of excellence in service provision.
- Develop a Trust Infection Prevention & Reduction Plan to be adapted by each Directorate.
- Develop a Communication Strategy, to ensure the exchange of information with all staff about good practice, and ensure performance against delivery of the Trust’s IP&C strategy is enhanced.
- Maintain links with partner organisations e.g. Trusts, PHA, SPPG, DoH, and others, and work with them to improve care in the local health community.
- Maintain awareness of national and international trends and evidence and link it to local IP&C development.
- Contribute to networks of IP&C specialists / leads in the local health economy, so as to enable a learning environment and to assist the spread of good practice.
- Chair the Trust Water Safety Group, monitor and oversee the water safety plans across all Trust facilities, and prepare summary report for relevant meetings.
- Attend and contribute to regional IP&C meetings and lead on the implementation of recommendations for the Trust and region.
