Job summary
The post holder will lead on the development, delivery and evaluation of the foundation training year (FTY) programme within Altnagelvin or SWAH and OHPCC, in line with GPhC/PSNI standards and in collaboration with NICPLD.
Main responsibilities
- Lead on the timetabling and rotation of FTY trainees to ensure their needs are met in relation to achievement of MPAs, mandatory 90 hours prescribing practice and experience of the different pharmacy services. Act as a role model and leader for FTY trainees, promoting the role of the hospital pharmacist and demonstrate appropriate professional behaviours.
- Responsible for the quality control of the FTY programme delivery within Altnagelivn or SWAH/OHPCC
- Work collaboratively with NICPLD to provide feedback on FTY programme.
- Support and train other pharmacists within the Trust about all aspects of the FTY programme
- Supervise, mentor and co-ordinate FTY trainee pharmacists,
- Work as a pharmacist independent prescriber within the Clinical Pharmacy Service.
- Undertake other senior clinical pharmacist roles as specified by the Trust, including act as responsible pharmacist when required.
- Able to set and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with FTY trainees.
- Act as a Designated Pharmacist Practitioner (DPP) for FTY trainees and provide support to others undertaking the role of DPP.
- Act as an Educational Supervisor (ES) and provide support to others undertaking the role of ES.
- Contribute to the teaching and assessment of clinical pharmacy skills that support professional practice, such as consultation skills, examination skills, medicines reconciliation, clinical reasoning, decision-making and prescribing.
- Can competently teach, assess and monitor, as appropriate, the FTY trainee skills, knowledge, behaviours and understanding.
- Engage with other stakeholders within the Trust to assist with delivery of FTY programme.
- Provide support and train other pharmacists within the Trust about education, supervisor and DPP roles and the responsibilities of the FTY programme.
- Use knowledge of experiential learning for undergraduate years 1-4 to help with FTY programme development working closely with the Clinical Education Pharmacist (CEP) Team and NICPLD.
- Support the NICPLD FTY Team with hospital placement plan.
- Contribute to the development of Mandatory Practice Activities (MPAs) in collaboration with NICPLD and other FTY stakeholders
- Liaise with the CEP Team in preparation for FTY delivery in hospital. .
- Have oversight of the FTY trainee e-portfolios and liaise with ES, DPP and practice supervisors (PS) to evaluate the performance and monitor FTY trainee progress during hospital placement.
- Raise issues and concerns about FTY trainee pharmacists’ progress/capability/development with NICPLD as soon as issues arise.
- Support FTY trainees in their learning.
