POSITIONS ARE IN REMOTE AND/OR ISOLATED COMMUNITIES**
Nurse practitioners provide onsite and remote consultative services to the population health and primary care team. They are responsible for:
illness treatment
· referrals
· ordering and interpreting tests
· prescribing medications
· performing minor medical procedures
· educating clients and their families on:
o healthy living
o disease prevention
o managing illness

Official Language Proficiency
· Various language requirements depending on the position being staffed.
· This selection process may be used to staff similar positions within Indigenous Services Canada with various linguistic profiles including English essential or bilingual imperative (BBB, CBC or CCC).
· For Quebec Region: Positions are bilingual ONLY and candidates must be willing to take Second Language Evaluations. This means the candidate must be able to communicate (read, write and speak) fluently in English and French.
· Second Language Evaluations will be completed for your second official language.

Occupational Certification
· Eligibility for registration as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (Nurse Practitioner) in a province or territory of Canada.
Education
· Graduation with a Master’s degree in Nursing from a recognized post-secondary institution* or graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution* in Nurse Practitioner Program with successful completion of approved training in Primary Care, All Ages specialization or some other specialty relevant to the position.
*Recognized post-secondary institution: Public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.
· Candidates with foreign credentials must provide proof of Canadian equivalency. Consult the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials or Alliance of Credential Evaluation Services of Canada (ACESC).
Essential Experience
Recent* and Significant** experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) providing community health or primary care nursing services in one or more of the following areas:
· Community Health (Public Health and Home and Community Care)
· Primary Care
· Urgent or Emergency Care
· Acute or Intensive Care
Recent* is defined as within the last five years
Significant** is defined as at least two years' of experience with the candidate performing complex activities related to this task

Conditions of Employment
· Reliability Status Security Clearance
· Valid driver's license or personal mobility to a degree normally associated with the possession of a driver's license
· Medical Clearance:
o PRE-PLACEMENT: Category 1 health evaluation + COVID-19 self-screening questionnaire;
o PERIODIC: Category 3 health evaluation according to the schedule outlined in the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard for “First Nations and Inuit Health Branch Nurses Assigned to Isolated Posts in Northern First Nations Communities”;
o For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: a valid Category 1 medical clearance for their dependent(s) in accordance with section 4.2 of the Isolated Post and Government Housing Directive and Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule;
o For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: consent to their dependent(s) to undertake a Category 1 periodic health evaluation in accordance with Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule.
· Willingness and ability to travel in small aircraft, off road vehicles and by boat in varied weather conditions to communities in remote and isolated areas
· Willingness and ability to work in a rigorous, diverse and often demanding work environment
· May be required to be temporarily reassigned to other communities as operationally required
· Willingness and ability to perform on call duties, work after hours, and on weekends as required
· Willingness and ability to complete mandatory education/training relevant to the position
· Current valid registration as a Registered Nurse in the extended class and a member in good standing in the province where the position is located.
· Important Note: Candidates must meet and maintain the Conditions of Employment throughout their employment.

1. Chronic Disease Management (including Mental Health or Addictions)
2. Pediatrics

Abilities
· Ability to conduct and communicate the findings of a health assessment for clients of all ages
