Contract and Hours: Permanent, Bank
To establish a waiting list for any permanent, temporary, full-time, part-time positions that may arise over the next 12 months throughout the Western Trust area
Role Purpose:
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care and / or the implementation and evaluation of these programmes. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and may be required to demonstrate procedures to and supervise qualified and / or unqualified staff.
The guidance provided in the Code of Professional Conduct issued by the NMC should be taken as a standard to be achieved.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Participates in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individual patient care – based on the Nursing Process method and using a Model of Nursing.
- Ensure that all patients receive the care identified in their care plans.
- Ensures that nursing procedures and treatments are understood by staff and carried out according to established policies and procedures.
- Observes and reports on the conditions of patients and maintains patients’ records accurately and legibly.
- Ensures that confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- Adheres to regulations regarding Controlled Drugs and the custody and administration of medicines.
- Participates in meal service and arranges for patients’ meals/special diets when required.
- Organises the reception, discharge and aftercare of patients in accordance with hospital policy.
- Maintains good communications with patients’ relatives regarding the patients’ needs and welfare. Provides support for relatives when necessary.
- Participates in the teaching of learners and ensures that learner objectives are met in accordance with the requirements of National Board.
- Supervises junior members of nursing staff and nursing auxiliaries.
- Participates in research and trials of new equipment.
