Contract and hours: Permanent and Full-time (10PA's) A waiting list may be established for the next 12 months should another similar post arise

Job summary

To provide optimum quality of effective and efficient Orthopaedic and Trauma care within the contract resources available to the Western HSC Trust predominantly in Altnagelvin Area Hospital. To undertake the provision of a trauma and elective service to Londonderry, Enniskillen, Omagh, Limavady and Coleraine. The trust provides outpatient clinics at the South West Acute Hospital, OHPCC, Waterside Health Centre, Roe Valley and the Causeway Hospital. In order to supply a comprehensive and regular outreach service to the extended catchment areas this work will be shared with the incumbent team of 14 consultants. It is necessary therefore to undertake outpatient clinics at the Erne Hospital, Tyrone County Hospital, Roe Valley, Waterside Health Centre and the Causeway Hospital.

Main responsibilities

  • The prime clinical responsibility is to be accountable for the continuous care of his/her patients and, as part of this responsibility, undertake shared rota arrangements for the Orthopaedic and Trauma Rota ensuring appropriate standards of care for patients and standards of education, support and supervision for junior staff at all times.
  • The successful applicant will promote and develop multidisciplinary teamwork within the specialty and will communicate effectively with all agencies and personnel involved in providing Orthopaedic and Trauma services.
  • The successful applicant will work together with his/her Orthopaedic and Trauma colleagues in the further development of Orthopaedic and Trauma services in the area.
  • The successful applicant will be responsible for providing procedures relating to the specialty and will develop same in keeping with medical advances.
