Key Reports: Clinical Nurse Manager II, Clinical Nurse Manager I Professionally Accountable to the Director of Nursing

Key Direct Reports: Support Staff, Student Nurses as appropriate

Salary Scale: €33,943 - €51,628 (LSI x 1) (pro rata to contractual hours worked)

Contract and Hours: Permanent and Full-time (37.5 hours) /Part-time (18.75 hours)

Annual Leave Allowance: 24 - 27 days per annum (pro rata to contractual hours worked)

 

Key duties and responsibilities

A Staff Nurse is a registered nurse who is involved in direct patient care with the responsibility of providing the highest standard of evidence based nursing care in partnership with other health care professionals.

Their role is to promote health, prevent disease, and help patients cope with illness.

Responsibilities include assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating highly specialised nursing care, using a holistic approach.

When providing direct patient care, they observe, assess, and record symptoms, responses, and progress.

They also supervise and assess student nurses and other junior staff in the clinical area.

The Registered Nurse must adhere to Code of Professional Practice and Behaviours.

Participate and cooperate with legislative and regulatory requirements in relation to Health and Safety as outlined in the Safety, Health and Welfare Act 2005 and the Hospital Safety Statement.

Academic / professional qualifications

Required

Be Registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

AND

Cardiology (CathLab/CCU)

A minimum of one years’ experience in General Medical/Surgical Nursing plus 6 months experience working within a Cardiology area in an acute hospital/relevant clinical area within the last 3 years.

OR

A minimum of one year’s experience in a Cardiology Area in an acute hospital/relevant clinical area within the last 3 years.

Critical Care (General ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, Cardiothoracic Ward, and Burns Unit)

A minimum of one years’ experience in a Critical Care environment in an acute hospital within the last 3 years.

Critical Care (Foundation Course)

Minimum of one years’ experience in general medical/surgical nursing in an acute hospital/relevant clinical area within the last 3 years.

Emergency Department

Minimum of one year’s experience (postgraduate or undergraduate) in General Medical/Surgical nursing plus 6 months experience working within an emergency department in an acute hospital/relevant clinical area within the past 5 years.

GUIDE

Minimum of one years’ post registration experience in an acute hospital setting/relevant clinical area.

All Other Clinical Areas

Minimum of six months experience (post graduate or undergraduate) in medical/surgical nursing in an acute hospital/relevant clinical area within the past 5 years.

Note: Post holders must maintain annual registration with NMBI.

Desirable

Postgraduate qualification or course in the relevant area.

A level of proficiency in the English language, written and spoken, is a requirement of all roles within St James’s Hospital. You will be required to self assess your proficiency level in the Standard Application Form. In addition, your proficiency in spoken English will be assessed during the interview process appropriate to the role available.
