Team Member - Day Services

Role Purpose

The overall role and responsibility of a Team Member is to provide education and training in vocational skills, independence and life-skills through programmes that includes all aspects of daily living. The team member should promote person-centredness at all times. 

The Team Member is a member of the Day Services Department and will deliver programmes in conjunction with the wide multidisciplinary team and other relevant agencies.

 

Key Responsibilities

    • Have the flexibility to work across all of Day Services to meet the needs of the service.
    • Take the lead role in implementing day services programmes for service user.
    • Promote best practice.
    • To follow correct procedure for all incidents / accidents.
    • Keep accurate records.
    • Communicate with the line managers daily and provide up-to-date service reports.
    • Promote innovation in service delivery throughout day services.
    • Work as part of a team in contributing to the design and further development of the Day Services Programme in line with New Directions Guidelines.
    • Support service users in conjunction with Person Centred Planning (PCP) to set personal goals, develop and carry out a plan to achieve these goals.
    • Promote person-centredness throughout the service.
    • Listen to service users wishes and support them to advocate for themselves while encouraging them to take responsibility for decisions in their day to day lives.
    • Support service users to carry out a swimming programme, which will include entering the pool.
    • Actively seek new interests and opportunities with service users to interact in their community in a positive way and promote active citizenship.
    • Provide personal assistance for service users in the areas of personal needs including intimate care.
    • Communicate with Line Manager on a regular daily basis and provide up to date service reports.
    • Undertake driving duties and bus escort duties in Stewarts Care vehicles once initial training complete. Ensure all bus protocols and policies are followed.
    • Maintain record systems in accordance with Adult Services policies.
    • Any other duties which may be assigned from time to time.

 

Role requirements

  • A degree (Honours) in Social Care, Intellectual Disability Nursing, Information Technology Management, Home-Economics or Art and Design.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Minimum one years’ experience working in the area of intellectual disability is desirable.
  • The aptitude to provide a person-centred approach to programmes.
  • Full driving licence is desirable.
  • The flexibility to work in all areas of Day Services.
  • Knowledge of New Directions Guidelines and Interim Standards.

Care Staff - Residents Services

Role Purpose

The overall role and responsibility of Care Staff is to enhance the lives of the Residents.  To this aim Care Staff must work effectively with all staff directly involved with the residents of Stewarts Care.

Care Staff are a member of the Resident Services team and deliver support in conjunction with the wider multidisciplinary team and other relevant stakeholders.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • To Supervise the residents in all aspects of daily life, have due regard for their safety and the safety of others, both on and off sections including outdoor activities in accordance with Stewarts Care Policy.
  • To ensure that all efforts are made to cater for the physical and emotional needs of the residents to ensure the highest quality of care.
  • To assist in the day to day running of sections so that each area is run in a manner that is in keeping with the highest professional standards and care.
  • To assist in the training of residents and to observe and report on residents to nursing staff and other personnel directly involved with residents when requested. To assist in client assessment and programme implementation.
  • To accompany residents to outside clinics, hospitals or other centres where they have been transferred for specialised treatment or care and to give a preliminary verbal report on returning to residence.
  • To assist in the implementation of nursing treatment as directed.
  • To assist in the induction of new Care Staff to the Residents and general routine.
  • To accept delegated responsibility for residents when requested as directed by the Manager/Social Care Worker or Nurse in Charge.
  • To attend In-service Training Programme and lectures educating on the development of service users.
  • Attend Fire Prevention and Emergency Training Sessions and become conversant with them and to implement fire orders as per letter of appointment.
  • Observe strictly the Code of Confidentiality.
  • Maintain Hygiene and tidiness in area assigned to.
  • Undertake training for the safe administration of medication.
  • Administer medication in line with organisational policy.
  • In the course of employment all employees may be required to support residents or day attenders in leisure activities including participating in activities in the swimming pool, cooking, cleaning and driving.

 

The Person

Candidates must demonstrate sufficient competency and professional knowledge to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role.

  • QQI Level 5 (Healthcare Support) or SKILL-VEC Level 5 or equivalent is desirable.
  • One years’ experience working in the area of disability is preferable.
  • Excellent Communication Skills.
  • Knowledge of HIQA, the Health Act 2007- 2013, Progressing Disability Services for children and young people, New Directions & Mental Health in Intellectual disability.
  • Flexibility to work in all areas of Resident Services.
  • Creativity (e.g., in using community resources, problem solving, supporting service user needs).
  • Professional, accountable, good planning and time management skills.

  • Assist Team Members in the delivery of appropriate services to those attending Day Services, having due regard for their safety and the safety of others, both on and off the premises, including outdoor activities.
  • Support service users in conjunction with Person Centred Planning (PCP) to set personal goals develop and carry out a plan to achieve these goals.Listen to their wishes and support them to advocate for themselves; while encouraging them to take responsibility for decisions in their day to day lives.
  • Support the service user to carry out a swimming programme, which will include entering the pool.
  • Act as a key worker for the service user. (A member of staff appointed to assist and support individuals to achieve their goals. The keyworker is the central point of contact for the individual and for families)
  • Personal assistance for service users in the areas of personal needs including Intimate care.
  • Work as part of a team in contributing to the design and further development of the Day Services Programme in line with New Directions.
  • Have responsibility for running various aspects of the day programme and recording activities on the electronic information management system.
  • Responsibility of the development of individualised programme of activity for a service user/s.
  • Use a flexible approach to help meet service user’s individual needs.
  • Attend and participate creatively in team meetings.
  • Maintaining record systems in accordance to Adult Services policies.
  • Maintain a code of confidentiality and discretion in all dealings with service users, families and staff.
  • Driving duties as required.
  • Escort duties to transport service users to and from home each morning and evening as required.
  • Any other duties which may be assigned from time to time.

 

The Person

Candidates must meet the following criteria relevant to the role:

  • Obtained or near completion of a full Major FETAC Level 5 (or equivalent) award in a relevant Healthcare Qualification.
  • A keen interest to work in the area of Intellectual Disabilities.
  • A commitment and drive to support people to achieve their goals.
  • Highly motivated to work as part of a team who strive to deliver an excellent service.
  • An understanding of the role of Care Staff within the Day Services Department
  • Understands and implements a person-centred approach always.
